Members of a City Committee have unanimously rejected a proposal to raise the speed limit on Grant avenue from 50 to 60 kilometers an hour..
The Winnipeg councillors cited several reasons -- including the number of day care centers along the route and fears kids could run into the street as well as the number of seniors that need to cross the road at various locations..
The proposal to boost the speed limit was considered after a recent traffic study found most drivers were already going 10 kilometers over the limit and were doing it relatively safely.
But, Councillors were worried if the speed limit was raised to 60 km/h many drivers would be going 70 km/h..
