Providence College and Seminary in Otterburne, Manitoba will offer the first fully-interactive distance classroom experience.
Students can study from anywhere in the world through "eProv", a new interactive distance education program funded by the federal Knowledge Infrastructure Program and the Buller Foundation. Built on the Nefsis technology platform, "eProv" makes Providence probably the only college in Canada to offer the experience starting this September.
Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board and Provencher M-P will be at Providence Wednesday to cut the ribbon on this newly renovated, high-tech classroom. Providence will get $550,000 in funding from the federal Knowledge Infrastructure Program, with roughly half of this amount designated for interactive distance education.
By Sept. 8, when classes resume, there will actually be two rooms, the first one for seminars, and a second larger "eProv" facility for lectures. Students will be able to join classes from anywhere in Manitoba, from across Canada’s North, and even from around the world. If they have access to a computer and the internet, they have access to a live classroom experience..
