A black bear cub has become the first bear to test out the services now available at the Assiniboine Park Zoo's International Polar Bear Conservation Centre. Staff got the call from Manitoba Conservation who came across the malnourished cub. Director of Zoological Operations Tim Sinclair-Smith says the bear wasn't exactly the species they expected first time out, but it gave them a chance to put the facility through a trial run... for when the first Polar Bear cub comes their way. The bear will be given a considerable period of time to recuperate and acclimatize. After that, it will be sent to another accredited Zoo.
