There are now new guidelines in place designed to improve patient safety in this province. Manitoba is one of only three Canadian provinces to mandate the reporting and investigation of so-called "critical incidents." It requires action be taken and shared with patents or their families. New patient, family and staff education and support resources have been developed by the Manitoba Institute for Patient Safety. All 11 health authorities now support patient disclosure.
