Veteran survey released
CJOB News Team reporting
11/5/2009

A new survey finds that many Canadians overestimate how long the average veteran serves in the military and how many of them retire with pensions.

The average number of years of service is 11 and a half, but a Nanos Research survey says most Canadians think it's longer and 35 percent believe it's 20 years.

The survey also showed that a majority of respondents believe at least half of all veterans retire with pensions. In reality, only 30 percent of veterans retire with pensions.
