A five-year legal battle between a Winnipeg folk group and the makers of the Harry Potter movies has come to an end.
In 2005, a Winnipeg group called The Wyrd Sisters sued Warner Brothers for 40 million dollars, saying the movie "Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire" included a rock group with the same name. Reporter Steve Lambert of The Canadian Press says a complex court battle ensued...
The lawsuit was a long shot, according to one expert. Mira Sundara-Rajan, a professor of intellectual property law at the University of British Columbia, says the name "Wyrd Sisters" has turned up in books and movies dating back centuries, including Shakespeare's Macbeth.
