Saints Close Gap On Goldeyes
The Winnipeg Goldeyes have lost a little breathing room atop the North Division.    Winnipeg pitchers allowed 11 hits and issued six walks in an 8-5 loss to the St. Paul Saints Tuesday night. The Saints are just one game behind the Goldeyes for first place in the division. Goldeyes reliever Kaohi Downing took the loss for the Goldeyes. He allowed three runs in one inning of relief. The rubber match of the series goes Wednesday night  in St. Paul.    Justin Garcia gets the nod for Winnipeg.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes Start With Big Win
The Winnipeg Goldeyes went into Midway Stadium in St. Paul Monday night and scored early and often. Lefty Canadian starter Mark Hardy pitched the first complete game for a Goldeye this season and won his fourth game of the year, as the Fish blasted the St. Paul Saints 11-3. Amos Ramon, Leonard Davis and Nate Samson each drove in a pair of runs as the Fish put it away with five runs in the seventh.  With the win, the Goldeyes remained in first place in the American Association's North Division. The two teams go at it again Tuesday night in Game 2 of the three-game series at 7:05 p.m. in St. Paul, Minnesota. Reliever Aaron Correa will get the start for Winnipeg.

MHSAA Presents Several Awards
The Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association presented several awards on Monday at its annual general meeting in Gimli. Gord Nixon of Major Pratt School in Russell was presented with the Nick Laping Leadership award.     He has been  teaching and coaching high school sport for 39 years and  has been involved with hosting 9 Provincial Championships, and his teams have won Five Volleyball Provincials, one baseball and one Fastball Championship.  Rhonda Young of Souris School was presented the Frank L. McKinnon Award for her outstanding volunteerism in high school sports.  Rhonda has been teaching and coaching for 27 years, in Thompson, and then in Souris.  She has served on the MHSAA Board, and been involved in hosting several Provincial Championships. The 2013 Grey Cup Legacy High School Coach of the Year,  was awarded to Murray Brown of Oak Park High School.  Murray has been teaching and coaching for 26 years, and has been a member of the MHSAA Board for 8 years.  Murray’s girls’ basketball teams have appeared in 24 consecutive Provincial “AAAA” Championships. Bison Women's Hockey Team Recruits Calgary Player
The Bison women’s hockey team has recruited Caitlin Fyten for the upcoming 2013-14 season. The 5’7" defenceman played for Edge School in Calgary last two seasons,  in the Female Midget Junior Women’s Hockey League (JWHL).

Fish Defeat Capitales
The Winnipeg Goldeyes defeated the Quebec Capitales 4-3 this afternoon at Shaw Park. The Fish begin a three game series on the road Monday against the St. Paul Saints.
