Local Arrest In Nigerian Scam
CJOB's Courtney James reporting
5/29/2008
A 37-year-old Nigerian man in Winnipeg could get deported following a sentence for fraud.
The judge in Toluwalada Owolabi's case sided with the prosecution and handed the fraudster 30 months in prison.
The Crown says the penalty could result in Owolabi being deported, but explains that decision lies with immigration officials.
Court heard the Nigerian man was part of an email scam that stole money from a Winnipeg doctor.
Owolabi pleaded guilty for his role in the caper that netted 78 hundred dollars.
