Jets Prospect - WHL Player Of The Year

The Winnipeg Jets prospect forward Adam Lowry has been named WHL Player of the Year for the 2012-13 season.

He was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the third round, 67th overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft,

Lowry played in 72 games with the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL this season. He led the team with 88 points, 45 goals and 43 assists.

He also played in nine games with the St. John's IceCaps of the American Hockey League this season collecting one assist and signed a contract with the Jets on April 16, 2013.

Jets Prospect Invited To U-S Men's National Team

The Winnipeg Jets have announced Jets prospect Jacob Trouba has been invited to the 2013 U.S. Men’s National Team Training Camp. The team will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championship May 3-19 in Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden.

Trouba played in 37 games with the University of Michigan Wolverines during the 2012-13 season. He recorded 29 points, including 12 goals along with 88 penalty minutes. Trouba was named to the 2013 CCHA All-Rookie Team determined by a vote of the conference’s head coaches and was also named Best Offensive defenceman for the CCHA.

Trouba has won three medals for Team USA during his career, including a gold medal at the 2013 World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia. He was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round, ninth overall, in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

JET's Season Ends

The Winnipeg Jets were eliminated from the playoffs before the third period started Thursday night versus Montreal when Ottawa and the New York Rangers won their games in overtime.

The Jets then saw a 2-1 lead turn into a 4-2 loss to the Canadiens to bring their season to an end.

Forward Blake Wheeler who scored his 19th goal of the season shared his thoughts after the game.

"I'm sick of it, I'm sick of going home right now, and I think we have a lot of guys that are sick of going home right now."

James Wright had the other Jets goal. The team finishes the season in 9th spot in the Eastern Conference.

Three Jets Players Honoured

The Winnipeg Jets have named the winners of their regular season year-end awards.

The McDiarmid Lumber Three Stars Award went to goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. Pavelec has been recognized game-after-game for his solid play and highlight reel performances. He received a star of the game award seven times at MTS Centre this season.

The Northwest Company Community Service Award was given to defenceman Zach Bogosian for his commitment to our community through charitable involvement, school, hospital and community visits and other philanthropic endeavors. Bogosian has taken it upon himself to make various hospital and senior home visits on his own this past year, as well as promote recycling through his partnership with Recycle Everywhere.

And Zach Redmond was awarded the Dan Snyder Memorial award. It's given to the Winnipeg Jets player who embodies perseverance, dedication and hard work without reward or recognition, so that his team and teammates might succeed. Dan Snyder was a member of the Atlanta Thrashers who passed away tragically in 2003. Snyder played 49 games with the Thrashers for 23 career points (11G, 12A) and 39 penalty minutes. General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff presented Redmond with the award. After appearing in his NHL debut with the Jets this season and scoring his first NHL goal, Redmond endured a life-threatening injury that put his young career at a halt. His determination, strong will, and work-ethic made for a speedy recovery.

Jets Host Montreal Tonight

The Winnipeg Jets will go into their final game of the season in playoff contention. The question is, will it will be "wait till next year time" again when the smoke clears after the 7pm faceoff vs Montreal? First and foremost, the Jets have to win and for that to matter, Ottawa or the Rangers have to lose, and yes it can be in extra time at Washington and Carolina. Montreal has lost 5 of their last 6 in trying to nail down top spot in the North East, or at least home ice advantage in the 1st round of the playoffs, so the Jets are going up against a struggling opponent.

Jets Can Still Make Post-Season

The Washington Capitals clinched the Southeast Division title Tuesday night with a 5-3 victory over Winnipeg.

Alex Ovechkin scored his league-leading 31st goal for the Caps.

Jets coach Claude Noel says They had a chance to get back into the game when it was 2-2 but let it get away.

The Jets are ninth in the East, a point back of Ottawa and the Rangers and still have a chance to make the playoffs. One thing is for sure they have to win their last game of the season Thursday night at home against Montreal.

Jets Against Capitals Tonight

The Winnipeg Jets had to insert Derek Meech and Antti Miettinen into the lineup Monday night in Buffalo out of necessity. And all those 2 did were to set up the first goal, and score the game winner. So that leaves Nik Antropov with a tough act to follow as the replacement for Kyle Wellwood tonight in Washington.

Jets are 1 point behind the Capitals, who have a game in hand. So even a win tonight would leave Winnipeg in "must win mode" for Thursday's season finale against Montreal at MTS Centre.

Jets Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

Antti Miettinen scored with 7:36 left to keep the surging Winnipeg Jets in the playoff race with a 2-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night.

Ondrej Pavelec stopped 24 shots, including a huge save on Thomas Vanek with just under six minutes left in regulation. Aaron Gagnon also scored for Winnipeg.

Winnipeg (24-19-3) moved within a point of the idle New York Rangers, who hold the Eastern Conference's eighth and final playoff spot in the final week of the season.

The Jets are also within a point of Southeast Division-leading Washington. They play the Capitals Tuesday night in Washington.

Jets In Buffalo Tonight

Winnipeg Jets Captain Andrew Ladd says it's great to be playing games that matter with just a week left in the schedule.

"We need to win this game so it comes down to that. But as a player, I think you enjoy that pressure. It's nice to be playing a meaningful game and have something to play for at this time of year. We're going to need out best."

The Jets are in Buffalo tonight, and with just 3 games left are 3 points behind Ottawa and the Rangers for the final 2 playoff spots in the Conference. And 3 back of Washington for the Division title. Winnipeg does have the tiebreaker advantage versus New York and the Senators, but not the Capitals.

Jets Grab Single Point Against Isles

Kyle Wellwood scored twice but it wasn't enough as the Winnipeg Jets fell to the New York Islanders 5-4 in a shootout at MTS Centre.

It was back and fourth throughout as the Islanders would score and then the Jets would come back to tie it.

As CJOB's Kelly Moore explains, both teams also traded opportunities in overtime...

John Tavares scored the eventual game winner in the shootout.

The Jets finish the six game homestand with a 11 of a possible 12 points.
