CJOB's Tamara King reporting
11/20/2009
A solemn ceremony over the noon-hour Friday to officially launch the pillows for troops campaign.
A host of dignitaries including the Afghan Ambassador and ordinary people paused for a moment of silence to remember Corporal James Arnal a 25-year old Winnipeg soldier who was killed in Afghanistan in July 2008. He's the inspiration behind Pillows For Troops, a program launched by his former employer, the owners of J.S. Furniture Gallery with the help of sponsors like CJOB.
The program aims to send a pillow to every Canadian soldier serving in Afghanistan until the end of the currant combat mission in 2011. Organizers hope the pillows will provide men and women in uniform a little piece of home and a comfortable place to rest their heads on a difficult and sometimes deadly mission.
You can find a direct link to the Pillows For Troops website on cjob.com. The pillows are five dollars each.
