First Nations, Métis and supporters came together across Canada Monday for ‘Idle No More’ demonstrations..
In Winnipeg about 400 people attended a rally at the Manitoba Legislature in opposition to Bill C-45.
Local Organizer Michael Champagne told CJOB the Bill has lots of ramifications for the aboriginal community.
One concern is the amount of reporting Chiefs and Communities have to do for Aboriginal and Northern Development Canada.
First Nations groups are also concerned over changes to the Indian Act, some of which may affect the leasing of reserve lands and how decisions involving band territories are made. And, They also oppose amendments to the Navigable Waters Protection Act..
