Several area Fire Departments and RCMP were at the scene of a fire at a Housing Unit on the Brokenhead First Nation for several hours Friday evening. That’s near the South Beach Casino off Highway 59.
The fire was reported around 7 pm and RCMP Sergeant Line Karpish says two RCMP Officers were already patrolling in the area and got to the site in less than a minute.
“They got there, there was no one else around, started pulling people out of the structure which I’m told had a number of people in it,” says Karpish. “The fire is extensive and the building is probably going to be a write off.”
Efforts were continuing to account for all the occupants and firefighters were still battling the blaze.
The investigation will continue with the assistance of the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner.
