The Air1 police chopper had a busy night, assisting in a pair of police chases.
The first happened just before 11 p.m. last night. Police noticed a suspicious car last night near Brazier Street and Trent Avenue. But when police approached the car, the driver sped off northbound on Henderson Highway.
The Air1 police chopper helped coordinate officers on the ground as they pursued the man who was driving more than 160 km/h up Highway 59.
The suspect was eventually stopped near Oasis Road and was safely taken into custody.
29-year-old Byron Wayne Frost of Selkirk faces charges of driving while disqualified, failing to comply with probation order and fleeing from police.
Then, shortly after 12:30 a.m., police tried to stop a suspicious pickup truck near Pritchard Avenue and Andrews Street.
The driver didn’t stop and drove south on Salter Street, throwing a number of items from the truck. That’s when the chopper got involved, noticing that the truck was being driven in an unsafe manner.
The truck stopped and the passengers took off on foot, but the chopper saw all of this and assisted officers on the ground in the arrest of two suspects. They also seized cash, methamphetamine, a cutting agent and a digital scale.
29-year old Joseph Louis Savino of Winnipeg faces a long list of charges while a 39-year-old Winnipeg woman also faces a few charges.
