A Winnipeg woman has been stabbed to death in the city’s first homicide of 2016.
Cynthia Marie French, 35, was attacked inside her suite at a rooming house on William Avenue near Isabel Street on Tuesday evening around 6 p.m.
Her sister was also stabbed but managed to escape and call police on a pay phone before being attacked again. She is now stable and will survive.
Two other sisters, Candice Nora Nepinak, 31, and Vanessa Louise Nepinak, 35, are now in custody.
Both are charged with second degree murder and attempted murder.
Police say the two accused broke into the victims’ suite Tuesday afternoon and were thrown out. They later returned with knives.
All four women knew each other but the exact motive for the killing is unclear.
