It’s a done deal.
Members of IBEW local 2034 voted 82 per cent in favour of a new contract with Manitoba Hydro.
Hydro’s Scott Powell takes issue with calling a measure in the deal a ‘no-layoff clause’.
“It’s not anywhere, really, similar to the agreement the province has in place with one of their bargaining units. This is strictly related to contracting out and ensuring that our staff know that they won’t be losing any of their jobs because of contracting out over the life of this contract,” Powell tells 680 CJOB.
Powell says the contract includes raises of 2.5 per cent this year and two per cent for the following two years.
The deal covers almost 3,000 power line technicians.
