A fire has destroyed an apartment complex in Winnipeg’s Fort Richmond neighborhood.
The blaze broke out just before 9:30 Friday morning in the 100 block of Ulster Street.
Selena Moore was one of the first people to call 911.
She tells 680 CJOB she saw thick smoke coming from the building and people running out the front door.
“We probably saw maybe nine come out of there. There was a family of five and a couple of other people came out shortly after that.”
Fire Chief John Lane says it’s still unclear how it began.
“We have our investigator on scene, so I can’t say anything until he’s completed. But the first in crew observed lots of flames and smoke coming from the second floor and flames through the roof.”
Lane says he believes there are between 16 and 20 townhouses in the complex.
While they all suffered varying amounts of damage, he doesn’t think anyone will be able to go back home.
No injuries have been reported.
