A once-in-a-lifetime show is continuing at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
Olympus: The Greco-Roman Collections of Berlin, was originally scheduled to close March 6 but will now stay until April 3. The show dates back thousands of years and features over 160 Greek and Roman works.
“We’re had good crowds and record numbers with school tours, which makes a lot of sense because it’s such an exciting way to learn about two ancient civilizations,” explains the WAG’s Catherine Maksymiuk. “To be surrounded by these ancient works, it’s like going back in time and being connected to these master artists.”
She adds that getting an extension is no small feat.
“It does involve a lot of logistics. We have a team of Transatlantic conservators that are involved with packing it. There are actually people that have to travel with the artworks. There’s a lot of scheduling involved.”
The popularity of the show is second only to the 100 Master exhibit of 2013.
