A full-scale public inquiry into the police headquarters project at City Hall is still a possibility, according to Mayor Brian Bowman.
Bowman says he wants to let the RCMP finish their investigation into alleged false invoices and cheques written to his predecessor, Sam Katz.
Depending on what the investigation proves, Bowman says all options, including an inquiry, are on the table.
“All options means all options. If there are significant, unanswered questions that remain unresolved as a result of the RCMP investigation, then absolutely we shouldn’t rule that out.”
Bowman says he finds the allegations “deeply troubling” but cautions none of them have been proven in court and no one had been charged.
“What we need to do right now is let the RCMP do their important work. These are very serious allegations. We want to do our part to ensure that there is value for money sent here to City Hall and to ensure that there is accountability.”
When asked if he would ever sell tickets to friends or contractors working on city projects, Bowman simply answered “no.”
