Another long-time NDP MLA is stepping away from politics.
Tourism Minister Ron Lemieux will not run for re-election April 19.
The Premier indicated yesterday that Lemieux had a health scare while out of the country and wasn’t able to fly home until recently. Lemieux confirmed today to the Canadian Press that an infection developed while he was in Arizona and he needed surgery to drain it.
Lemieux has been an MLA for 17 years and joins a long list of big names that won’t be on the ballot for the NDP this spring. Theresa Oswald, Gord Mackintosh, Daryl Reid, Jim Rondeau, Stan Struthers, and Jennifer Howard have also bowed out.
