The Winnipeg Jets are expected to reveal on Sunday, a date and details of the much talked about NHL Outdoor Game at the Football Stadium.
The timing of the announcement coincides with a visit by the Edmonton Oilers, the opponent the Jets requested for the outdoor game.
When considering the Winnipeg Blue Bombers home schedule, it’s expected the outdoor game will be played the weekend of October 21st through 23rd.
Winnipeg also received some tough news on the injury front. Rookie forward Nikolaj Ehlers is sidelined indefinitely and rugged winger Anthony Peluso will also miss most, if not all of the remaining schedule.
Forward JC Lipon and defenceman Josh Morrissey have been recalled on an emergency basis from the AHL Manitoba Moose, because Jacob Trouba’s status is also questionable for Saturday’s 6 p.m. faceoff against Montreal.
Ehlers suffered an eye injury when a slapshot by the Islanders Frans Nielsen broke his visor just before the winning goal was scored in the 4-3 overtime loss to New York.
Head Coach Paul Maurice said more would be known about the extent of the injury during the next 24 hours, but until then Ehlers couldn’t ride the bike or even go for a brisk walk.
Peluso injured his right arm when he crashed into the cross bar of the Islanders net in the first period. Maurice said the “best case” scenario for his return is 3-4 weeks.
