It was a bounce back day for Mike McEwen on Tuesday at the Brier in Ottawa. The Manitoba Champs began the day with a 5-4 extra end victory over Jamie Koe of the Territories. And then followed up with a come from behind 6-4 win over Team Canada’s Pat Simmons in the evening draw.
The defending champs saw a 4-2 lead in the 9th end evaporate when McEwen was able to count four for the stunning victory.
The two wins raised McEwen’s record to 4-2, and sole possession of third place in the standings behind 6-0 Brad Jacobs of Northern Ontario and 5-1 Brad Gushue of Newfoundland-Labrador.
McEwen can strengthen his hold on a playoff berth with another productive day on Wednesday when he plays 3-4 Steve Laycock of Saskatchewan in the afternoon draw at 1:30 p.m., and then 2-4 Jim Cotter of B.C. in the 6:30 p.m. evening draw.
