We’re a little closer to hiring a new police chief in Winnipeg.
The entire police board will work as the committee to find the successor to Devon Clunis.
Chair, Councillor Scott Gillingham says he’s not sure when they’ll finish that work.
“Too early to determine how long the process will take. We don’t know that yet. I can tell you, again, this is our priority so I don’t anticipate that any one of us wants this to be a prolonged process,” says Gillingham.
Gillingham also says it’s its too soon to say whether someone already with Winnipeg police would be preferred, or if the new chief could be someone from another city.
Chief Clunis is retiring after nearly 30 years on the force, but, is still on the job until his replacement is picked.
