Former employees of shuttered aircraft maintenance company Aveos are are filing a $1-billion, class action lawsuit.
It’s targeting Air Canada along with the governments of Quebec and Canada.
Thousands of Aveos workers, many here in Winnipeg, lost their jobs when the company was shuttered in 2012.
Mark Maskell worked for the company here. He says he and others are looking for compensation.
“Having, you know, lost our jobs, lost our livelihoods, we feel like we have been done a great injustice,” says Maskell.
The lawsuit alleges that the governments are responsible for harming former Aveos workers by their “flagrant and deliberate violation” of federal laws governing Air Canada.
Last month, the Manitoba government agreed to end a different lawsuit against Air Canada in exchange for the airline creating some new jobs in Winnipeg.
