Embattled Liberal Leader Rana Bokhari says Manitobans don’t care about issues within the party.
She also stood by an email sent out by her campaign manager asking other Liberals not to speak negatively of her to the media.
The email speaks to Liberals, but was sent to media, which Bokhari says wasn’t a mistake. She said they would do it again to counter any unfair media tactics.
“The issues that are being represented today should be about policy so Manitobans can make a decision based on policies and leadership. So if it was to happen again, we absolutely would be sending any message out to any media source because that’s about transparency,” she said.
She says the focus shouldn’t be on issues within the party, it should be on policy because that’s what Manitobans care about.
“Manitobans don’t care frankly if the media is happy or sad about anything. Manitobans don’t care if the leader of a party is impressed or not impressed with anything…. They care about the truly serious issues, which should be policy issues,” she said.
In a speech to the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce this morning, she said the last couple weeks have taught her she isn’t a career politician and neither are most of her candidates. She attempted to spin that into a positive, saying maybe that’s what the province needs to see some real change.
The latest polls have been the Liberals slip to about 15 per cent support.
