If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck it may not be a duck – if it’s an app on a teen’s phone.
These days, good kids can easily get themselves in bad situations. You may or may not know about secret apps on your kids’ phones. They are disguised to look like legitimate applications with a specific function, but have back doors that operate as an entirely unexpected feature.
One of the most popular is Secret Calculator Icon.
Secret Calculator looks like a real calculator, but it’s more like a secure vault to hide things you don’t want seen. It has a decoy option, so if you enter your passcode in reverse, the app will appear legitimate. It also has intruder reports and can self-destruct.
That’s just one of many popular apps used by more and more teens, providing more and more opportunities for them to overshare information with the world, while keeping their parents in the dark.
