City Hall is putting the Public Safety Building on the chopping block.
A plan to demolish the building and replace it with a green space is going ahead.
Cindy Tugwell with Heritage Winnipeg asked councillors today to reconsider.
“We are much more educuated culture. We understand the importance of our heritage buildings and how economically viable and culturally and socially significant that they are,” says Tugwell.
Maintaining the building would cost too much according to city staff and the only viable option is to tear it down.
The Mayor has publicly supported bulldozing it.
