Today marks a national day of mourning for any Canadians who have lost their lives on the job.
Here in Manitoba, 19 workers died this year and over 29,000 people were hurt.
Tammy Helguson is thinking about her son Eric.
“On August 19, 1999 Eric went to work on a new construction site on the South Perimeter of Winnipeg and never came home from work,” Helguson told 680 CJOB.
A crane tipped over as a subcontractor didn’t follow proper procedure.
She says her message to anyone out there is to speak up if you feel something is putting you at risk.
Manitoba has put in place a number of laws to make workplaces safer but the push to ban asbestos continues.
