Winnipeg Police, are kicking off Arson Awareness Week today.
It comes, coincidentally as in the last week, there have been at least four suspicious fires causing millions of dollars of damage.
Detective Sargent Kathy Antymis says they see lots of fires being started in dumpsters and construction sites.
“If you’re a business owner and you have a dumpster in the back, you can, you know put a lock on that dumpster. You can make sure it’s away from your building to try and prevent it from spreading to your building. If you’re a construction worker, those places are at risk as well. If you can put a fence around the property, make it a high sturdy fence,” said Antymis.
Police say in some instances items outside the home were lit and quickly spread and are asking you to be careful with how store or throw things away.
