Winnipeg hospitals are still working at full capacity.
Although some, like the Grace, have brought their patient numbers down, some are still full, like St. Boniface Hospital.
The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority’s Chief Nursing Officer, Lori Lamont says that part of the problem is there’s no room at the patients next destination. “At any point in time there are a number of people in our hospitals who are there waiting to go on to the next place of care. So they are using a precious bed for care that isn’t required.”
Lamont adds that the WHRA is working hard to reduce the occupancy, with some success. At the Grace hospital occupancy is down, and at St. Boniface, the length of patient stay has been cut back.
