WINNIPEG- The Winnipeg Jets have officially announced the retirement of defenceman Grant Clitsome.
Clitsome joined the Jets on February 27, 2012 when he was claimed off waivers from Columbus. The 31 year old native of Ottawa went on to play just a dozen games for the remainder of the 2011-12 season.
The Columbus 9th round pick of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft suited up for 44 of the 48 games during the lockout shortened 2013 campaign, scoring 4 goals to go along with 12 assists for 16 points.
On July 2. 2013 the Jets signed Clitsome to a three year contract extension for 6.2 million dollars. But the following season he developed back problems and played in just 32 games.
Clitsome managed to dress for just 24 games in 2014-15 before undergoing back surgery in early January of 2015. He failed his training camp physical last fall and never played again.
