Online voting is the most popular change to our voting system that Canadians want to see – across all age groups.
This information is part of a survey just released by NRG Research and Peak Communicators that shows a lot of favour for new voting options. From the 1,000 of Canadians surveyed about electoral reform, 70 per cent wanted online voting, and more than half want a new electoral system.
For instance, it looks like Canadians want our voting system overhauled: only a quarter of respondents opted for the current first-past-the-post system. The rest of respondents were split on the other options presented by the survey:
- 23 per cent selected mixed member proportional (a combination of proportional representation and first-past-the-post)
- 19 per cent selected pure proportional voting
- 14 per cent selected ranked or preferential voting (a system in which voters rank their choices and the first candidate with a majority win)
So, if we were to conduct our own survey, what would you want? Do you want online voting? Do you want electoral reform? Taking your calls and texts after 1pm: 204.780.6868.
