PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE – The largest airshow to hit Manitoba in over a decade takes flight on Saturday in Portage la Prairie.
The goal of the event is to get others interested in aviation, through both interactive and in-air displays.
The first air display — the Canadian Forces (CF) Skyhawks — will take place at noon at the Southport Airport, with the CF Snowbirds ascending to the skies at 3:30 p.m. to close out the show
There will also be performances from the Sky Hawks Parachute Team and a search and rescue demonstrations involving the Canadian Forces Search and Rescue Technicians.
Executive Director Jill Oakes tells 680 CJOB we haven’t seen a show of this magnitude in quite some time.
“It’s been about 10 years. In fact, at the University where I teach, I asked my class, who are in there 20’s, has anybody been to an airshow? And absolutely nobody has had the opportunity to come to an airshow in Manitoba and Winnipeg. The last one in Winnipeg in St. Andrews was about 25 years ago. Those of us that were there still have fond memories of it.”
More information, including a complete schedule, can be found on the Manitoba Air Show’s website.
