Love conquers hate.
That was the message at a candlelight vigil to honour the victims of the mass shooting in Orlando.
The event at the Manitoba Legislature was put on by Pride Winnipeg.
Politicians, including Mayor Brian Bowman, community leaders and members of the public spoke to the hundreds in the crowd.
Bowman finished off his passionate speech by saying, “Stay united. Don’t let those bastards win”.
President of Pride Winnipeg Jonathan Niemczak tells 680 CJOB the LGBTQ community is having a difficult time processing what happened.
“A lot of folks are trying to find reason, which I don’t think you’ll ever find reason for this. The vigil is to provide that opportunity that outlet to come together and support one another in this time of need.”
49 people were killed Saturday night when a gunman opened fire at a gay nightclub. Police believe the shooter was a homegrown extremist.
