WINNIPEG – Two people are reported dead after a small plane crashed in the RM of Springfield around 10:00 AM today.
Emergency crews and Transportation Safety Board investigators are on scene just east of the floodway.
Springfield Fire Chief Jeff Hudson tells 680 CJOB this is one of the rare instances when a reported plane crash turned out to be true.
“We get quite a number of reports of possible plane crashes because it’s a very busy flight centre,” says Hudson. “We take them all seriously but it’s very seldom does it turn into something like this, which is unfortunate.”
Investigators from the Transportation Safety Board describe the crash site as “compact” and the plane burst into flames not long after hitting the ground.
