Winnipeg – Chris Walby has company on the Blue Bombers newly created Ring Of Honour at Investors Group Field. The Winnipeg Football Club has announced that former Bomber Quarterbacking Great Kenny Ploen will be joining Walby during the team’s next home game on Thursday Night vs the Edmonton Eskimos.
Ploen joined the Blue Bombers in 1957 after leading the University of Iowa to a 35-19 win over Oregon in the the Rose Bowl. The former Cleveland Browns draft pick was named the MVP as he scored the game’s first touchdown on a 49 yard run and also passed for a fourth quarter touchdown to “seal the deal.”
Ploen helped lead the Blue Bombers to Grey Cups in 1958, 59, 61, and 62 and retired in 1967 as the CFL’s team’s 6th all time leading passer and Winnipeg’s 5th all time leading rusher.
