Bye-bye Styrofoam coffee cups, takeout containers and peanut packaging … at least in San Francisco.
It’s the most extensive ban on plastic foam products in the United States and there are calls to extend a ban like this through cities around the world.
The Bill to ban Styrofoam-like products was passed unanimously and takes effect January 1st. No more polystyrene in retail sales for products including packing peanuts, ice chests, food-packaging products of course coffee cups.
The environmental hazards of these products have been the target of environmentalists for years. But have helped target bottom lines for businesses more economically. So while businesses may be at a small disadvantage now, there are greener alternatives and corporate social responsibility has a proven history of yielding greater returns on investments.
So what do you think, should Winnipeg follow suit?
