WINNIPEG – It’s an age old debate in Winnipeg, does our city do enough to make the roads safe enough to accommodate cyclists?
The topic will be back on the agenda at city hall this week – as the developers of that new outlet mall going up near IKEA want to cut back on parking spots for bikes.
Ivanhoe Cambridge are asking the city permission to have only 80 parking spaces for bikes – down from the 230 or so which are technically needed.
That’s because the city has a rule that there must be one bike spot for every 10 car spots.
City planners say they’re okay with making the exception this time, as long as the builder adds more parking if it’s eventually needed.
