The federal government’s Phoenix pay system has left tens of thousands of employees improperly paid or with no pay at all.
Marianne Hladun, regional executive vice president of the Public Service Alliance of Canada tells 680 CJOB the government has been apologizing profusely but it’s too little, too late.
“It would’ve been better had they been talking and apologizing in January when we told them there was a problem,” says Hladun. “That’s not going to help someone pay the rent.”
Up to 40 per cent of civil servants in some departments in Manitoba are reporting issues with the system according to the union.
The Trudeau government says it could take months for the pay problems to be completely resolved.
