Tragic news out of Houston, Texas. Former Winnipeg Blue Bombers linebacker Antonio Armstrong and his wife Dawn were shot and killed in their home early Friday morning. Their 16 year old son has been charged with murder.
The former Texas A & M All-American was a 6th round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 1995, and also spent time with the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams.
Armstrong played two seasons for the Lions in 1998 and ’99 before being traded to the Blue Bombers in 2000. He was Winnipeg’s Defensive Player of the Year and an East Division All Star in his first season with the team, despite suffering a fractured left ankle during a week 15, 36-30 loss in Montreal.
Armstrong returned to the Bombers in September of the following year and started in the 2001 Grey Cup loss to Calgary.
According to reports, Dawn Armstrong was found dead in the family home in the Houston suburb of Bellaire. Antonio Armstrong died later in hospital.
The couple also have two other children, a 20 year old son and 12 year old daughter, who were reportedly in the home at the time but not harmed.
