WINNIPEG – At least one dead puppy and several sick dogs have been seized from a home in East Kildonan.
Animal welfare officers got a tip from a concerned citizen about the house and went there yesterday afternoon to check things out.
Dr. Colleen Marion with the province’s Office of the Chief Veterinarian says they made a shocking discovery.
There were multiple dogs that were living in unsanitary conditions and a total of four dogs were removed and taken into care by animal protection officers. We did receive reports that there were approximately 10-12 dogs contained in the residence.”
Marion says she believes other people showed up before the investigators and took those dogs. They continue to investigate exactly what happened.
She admits its possible there are other dead puppies as well but she thinks the four dogs they are now looking after will pull through.
Marion says they are still looking into whether a small, unregulated dog rescue shelter was being run out of the home. They are still trying to get in touch with the owners.
