WINNIPEG- A 29-year-old Winnipeg man has been arrested after police say he stole three vehicles, significantly damaging two of them.
Police say it started at a gas station on Henderson Highway around 11:30 a.m. Saturday when the man tried to steal a Jeep Wrangler but was unsuccessful.
Then after breaking into a home on Springfield Road, the man stole a Chevrolet Silverado and then collided with a parked truck and a tow truck while driving, according to police.
He was then spotted by police and a chase ensued, with the suspect allegedly ramming into a police cruiser.
Police say the man then broke into a collision centre on Owen Street where he crashed a Honda Pilot into an overhead door.
He then got into a Ford F-150, and he was found passed out inside the truck about a half an hour later.
The entire sequence of events lasted about four hours.
The man faces multiple charges, including:
- Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon
- Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
- Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
- Break & Enter with Intent x 2
- Possession of Break-In Instruments
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Mischief Over $5000.00
Police believe alcohol and drugs were both factors.
Winnipeg Police Constable Jason Michalyshen says the man’s name will not be released until the police investigation wraps up.
