WINNIPEG – Winnipeg Police are looking for a man following Wednesday afternoon’s small explosion outside of the downtown law courts.
The blast happened at around 2: 00 p.m. near the front entrance at York Avenue and Kennedy Street.
“A backpack had been left on the sidewalk in front of the provincial law courts building,” said Cst. Rob Carver at a news briefing Thursday morning.
“A suspect male had placed that backpack on the ground and lit it on fire before leaving on a small-sized bicycle.”
An employee from the law courts attempted to extinguish the fire, when the bag exploded right in front of him.
No injuries were reported, but the employee was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
The suspect is described as an aboriginal man in his mid-twenties, with some facial hair. He was wearing sunglasses and a hat.
Carver adds it doesn’t appear the suspect tried to get into the law courts.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 204-986-6219.
