ST. PAUL – For seven innings, it looked like the Winnipeg Goldeyes might pull off a huge playoff road win.
In game three of their deadlocked American Association semifinal, the Fish had a 2-0 on the host St. Paul heading to the bottom of the 8th.
But a pair of runs in that inning tied it before Tony Thomas hit a walk-off homer to lead off the 9th, a heartbreaking blow for the Goldeyes and a 3-2 win for the Saints.
Kevin McGovern was outstanding on the mound for Winnipeg. He pitched seven shutout innings, allowing four hits, six walks and had nine strikeouts, but the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead.
The Saints now lead the best-of-five series 2-1 and can wrap up the series this afternoon in St. Paul. First pitch is 5:05.
