WINNIPEG – A controversial plan to introduce a growth fee on new developments in Winnipeg could be in place by the new year.
A city hall report recommends that the fees should be in place by January 1, 2017.
It suggests the city charge $10 per square foot on any new home, $15 per square foot on commercial and retails builds along with a charge of $22 per square foot on office space.
There are no exemptions for downtown developments.
However, government buildings, Manitoba housing, new schools, garages and decks would not have to pay the fees.
The report still needs approval from city council.
