WINNIPEG – A man is behind bars after swinging a knife at a pair of Winnipeg Police officers.
Cops spotted a suspect Monday afternoon near Young and Ellice who was wanted in a pair of West End robberies.
Constable Rob Carver says officers had to bring the man down with a taser after he brought out the blade.
“Our training has been consistent since tasers were first deployed,” says Carver. “An edged weapon of any type is considered a lethal threat. Officers certainly would have been appropriate in their use of force had they deployed their firearms.”
No one was hurt in the takedown.
Thirty eight year old Charles Thompson has been charged with assaulting an office with a weapon and several other offences.
