WINNIPEG – The city’s downtown development corporation is weighing in on the growth fee debate.
CentreVenture CEO Angela Mathieson says growth fees would stifle development in the city’s core.
“I think the economics of developing downtown are very difficult,” says Mathieson. “I think a full exemption really eases that.”
Mathieson made these comments at a downtown announcement today regarding grants to help fix storefronts.
The pilot project will be extended for the next four years to help renovate businesses and maintain heritage buildings.
The initiative is being supported by the province with over $500,000 invested in storefronts.
