WINNIPEG – Winnipeg is switching to a pair of new companies to pick up our garbage and recycling.
Miller Waste Systems and GFL Environmental are set to be handed seven year contracts, running until the year 2025.
Combined, it will cost the city close to $25 million per year.
The two current contractors, Emterra Environmental and Progressive Waste Solutions did put in bids to continue but were not selected.
Emterra has been doing the work since 2012, when the city switched to its new automated garbage cart system.
City council will be asked to approve the change at its meeting next month.
