WINNIPEG – Mayor Brian Bowman is in the Big Apple singing Winnipeg’s praises.
Bowman has been meeting with the Canadian Consul General and officials from New York’s transportation management centre.
Bowman tells 680 CJOB meetings with bond rating agencies have been very positive.
“They feel that we’re managing our debt very well as well as the fact that we balance our budget,” says Bowman. “We obviously went into more detail than that but overall, I left the meeting feeling very confident that our credit rating is not going to be subject to change.”
The mayor also met with the folks who revitalized Times Square to learn lessons on how to do same at Portage and Main.
“Times Square is unique,” says Bowman. “I don’t want to start comparing intersections in Winnipeg to that but there still are valuable lessons to be learned. We’re hearing a certain excitement… about what’s going on in Winnipeg right now.”
Bowman would like to see Winnipeg’s iconic intersection open to pedestrians by next year.
