TORONTO – Ahead of a meeting tomorrow with federal Health Minister Jane Philpott, provincial and territorial health ministers are joining forces in opposition of Ottawa’s plans to slash federal health transfer increases by half.
Manitoba’s Health Minister Kelvin Goertzen Tells 680 CJOB, the decrease of annual transfers from 6 to 3 percent is the primary concern.
“That reduction would cost Manitobans, and our healthcare system, 39 million dollars.”
Minister Goertzen also added there are other concerns as well.
“The long term sustainability of the health care system has been a concern that I and others have talked about”
Philpott says she’s ready to sit down and collaborate with her provincial counterparts in Toronto tomorrow.
But she adds she doesn’t just want to talk about money, she wants to talk about issues like homecare and how to tackle the growing problem of mental health illnesses.
