WINNIPEG – A toddler is recovering in hospital as Winnipeg Police are sounding the alarm once again over the dangers of fentanyl.
Emergency crews were called Tuesday night to a home on Aikins Street, where they found a child under 18-months-old in critical condition.
Constable Rob Carver says officers also found a residue of what they suspect is the powerful opioid, but tests are still being done to determine what exactly they are dealing with.
“And our investigators are concerned enough that front-line officers are not going to go in, we got to bring people in hazmat suits,” Carver told reporters. “So, if it’s deadly for a grown up, I can’t imagine the risks that would be involved for an infant.”
The child is now in stable condition.
Officers in hazmat suits investigated the area but don’t believe it was a drug lab.
Carver mentioned charges are possibly being pursued against those who were with the infant.
